Through this, it creates a positive environment of mentors and mentees with activities that provide students with essential knowledge, skills and experiences. At the same time, it gives alumni the opportunity to fulfill their aspirations of connecting with and supporting students.
Established in 2016 with the UEH Mentoring program, the VAM network has now grown with many programs at other universities to support students nationwide.

Common Issues Faced by Students
Two Numbers, One Story
In 2021, there were around 200,000** unemployed people with university degrees or higher. Meanwhile, 69% of companies surveyed about recruitment said job applicants lacking work-ready skills was the most common difficulty.
Not only lacking necessary skills, many students are falling into laziness, lack of motivation, losing direction, having unrealistic thinking, and wasting time on unhealthy activities.
Many students want to change themselves and improve their current situation but don’t know where to start.

Vision
Working Towards Building a Strong Mentoring Community
Mentoring helps students feel cared for and inspired, that they are not alone and lost when dealing with difficulties in work and life, and that they can learn better ways of doing things with the guidance of a good mentor.
Many studies have shown that mentor-mentee relationships have a powerful and positive impact on young people across all fields. The mentoring effect is made more effective through mutual benefit, as mentees become valuable human resources for their mentors’ organizations and companies.
The importance of mentoring lies not just in knowledge and skills, but largely in how it helps develop professional communication and build the social relationships necessary for students’ careers after graduation.
The program is also designed to help students make better career decisions by accumulating real-world experiences through internship programs as well as exchanging with industry experts through cross-mentoring or training activities.

Sharing from people who have participated in and supported the program

“VAM is my second family throughout my student life. Not only was I connected with a mentor, I was also given opportunities to work on many meaningful projects! And one of the biggest help VAM gave me was my first job at SRI Consulting. I’m very grateful to Minh, my mentor in the program and also the founder of the company, for creating conditions and guiding me in my first days after graduation.”

“VAM is an extremely wonderful program that brought a lot of value to me during my 3 years of participation, including 1 year as a mentee and 2 years as a support team member. Since joining this program, I have had major changes in improving essential soft skills, achieving a TOEIC score of 750 after years of struggling from scratch, and especially getting an internship spot at PwC Vietnam. I feel very fortunate to have met and become a mentee of Son and Trang, I still keep in touch with them now.”

“In my third year, I was lost among thousands of crossroads. Who would I become? What job would I do? I had no idea. No one in UEH Mentoring told me either. But my Mentor helped me find the answer myself. I used to assert that I would study Marketing and do Marketing after graduation until realizing I didn’t really like it. That was when I struggled tremendously with heaps of confusion. My Mentor asked me a question “why not?”. Just try everything, if it works out then great, if not then gain experience. And so I tried sales, and that’s how there is the young Unilever sales supervisor of today.”

“When mentoring students on goal setting, time management, planning, self-discipline, influence building, etc., the mentors themselves also need to continuously strive to accomplish the program’s goals.”

“After listening and sharing to help guide the students’ career orientations and future plans better, I feel happy and proud. Although small, I know I have helped others, and that is more than enough.”

“A great place to grow up. I think UEH Mentoring is the most worthwhile place in my student life, I have matured a lot here. Thank you to the program, thank you mentors.”
